I totally agree with your insights, especially about the advertising on the Daily. However, I imagine the online ads are 'free' if you also advertise in the print version. I recently moved from Decatur to Bowling Green, KY and the local newspaper, www.bgdailynews.com, has free access and supports it's site by advertising. Another problem with the Daily is that even on 'MyDecaturDaily' I can not post anything after registering. I had earlier complained to the Daily that the site wasn't fresh, pictures/articles remained on there for DAYS and sometimes the captions had nothing to do with the photos. And a question .... IF you were paying for access to the Decatur Daily .... and they fail to deliver up-to-the-minute, fresh, current, relevant news .... shouldn't they have to pay you??

I really appreciate your insight on this. Sad thing is, we are paid subscribers and cant log in but once in the morning and if I try to login using me email addy, it says "Please enter a valid email address." If they are going to start charging, they could at least get the site to work properly. I wonder if others are having this problem. I set up my account, entered my telephone number and last name and it all registered. But, it's good for one use a day. This does me no good since I travel often and am unable to physically read the paper. I do maintenance work for both The Huntsville Times and The Decatur Daily. And, I can tell you that from 10 years of personal relationships with employees at both, they have a dismal future. They (the daily) must really be losing to subscribers to have to stoop to the level of charging for online access. If they had done some real research and enlisted a good advertising agency to garner business ads, this wouldnt be going on.
